Frequently asked questions
During our many years of experience we have had many questions from eager guests wanting to know more about their impending visit. We will continue to add more as time goes on.
Most guests fly into Johannesburg airport and then catch a connecting flight to Hoedspruit Eastgate airport . There is also a daily direct flight from Cape Town. Our packages include a transfer from the HDS airport to the lodge and back on the day of departure.
There are also road transfers available from JHB to the lodge - please send us an email to info@moyasafarivilla.co.za and we will arrange this for you.
We always recommend that one stays at least 3 nights on Safari to get the best opprtunity to see as many of our wildlife animals as possible. The ideal length of stay is 5 nights as you will then have enough time to really immerse yourself in our area.
Most tours are affected by weather so we try and schedule these as close as possible to your arrival date.
Yes - there are a number of Car Hire comapanies at JHB airport and most have offices here in Hoedspruit as well.
We recommend Orpen Gate which is about 45 mins from the lodge
We require a 50% deposit within 7 days to secure your Safari with the balance being due 30 days prior to arrival. We can process credt cards, you may also do a funds transfer to our Bank.
We have WLAN routers in the main Villa as well as all the units.
As with many places around the world Africa has its places of danger and these should be voided. There are many horror stories coming out of the continent but in general Africa is a safe destination to travel to - if you take the necessary precautions.
Planning your trip with us will prevent any misunderstandings and allow you to enjoy what will certainly be one of your most memorable holidays..
Most of the better-known parks and reserves have lions but this is still no guarantee that you will see lions on your safari, however the chances are very high.
Visiting a number of parks during your safari will allow for more chance of seeing these incredible creatures. You may well see lions every day of your safari but as with all wildlife nothing is sure. The writer of this article travelled in Kruger Park for 4 days. On the morning of the 5th day, leaving the park, this writer saw the back half of a lion sticking out from behind a boulder. Such is luck! The best approach is not to put yourself under pressure to see lions but rather to appreciate everything - the lions will happen.
Guide/Tracker:
Your guide and tracker are central to the success of your safari. You’ll have plenty of time to connect with them and, by the end of your trip, they might just be your new best friends. With guides, it’s customary to leave a tip on your departure. What you choose to leave is totally up to you, but a general rule of thumb on safari is to tip your guide US$10 and your tracker US$5 per person per day.
Guests that are returning to a lodge that they have visited before, sometimes even bring small, personalised gifts for their guides. Alternatively, the lodges will generally give you a guideline for tipping and gifting if you ask them.
Camp/Lodge Staff:
There is a lot that happens behind the scenes of your safari and it’s important to consider and acknowledge all the wonderful people who look after the lodge. From housekeepers, to wait staff, to chefs – they all deserve to be thanked appropriately! Most safari lodges and camps have a communal tip ‘jar’ and around US$10 to US$20 per day is considered a reasonable tip.
